Linux | Wireless

Here are my notes for getting the AR242x working under linux.

running "sudo lspci" you will see the card I am looking for.

Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR242x 802.11abg Wireless PCI Express Adapter (rev 01)

When the proper drivers are not installed, when you run "sudo lshw -C network". You will notice that the card is unmanaged.

I suggest downloading and compiling from source two seperate packages from . The first would be the current version of the madwifi driver. The second is an updated HAL from madwifi. You may also have to disable ath5k from the HAL (Ubuntu /etc/modeprobe.d/blacklist). I have not had to do it with the current version.

Basic Steps:

  1. Download Hal and Driver
  2. make and make install driver
  3. make and make install hal
  4. modprobe ath_pci
  5. reboot

You may also want to add the ath_pci to your startup.

Special Note

Make sure to make clean prior to rerunning these steps when you upgrade the kernel.
